Info for Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1 & Symphony No. 6 (Live)
The internationally acclaimed young Chinese pianist Nyu Nyu will release his first live recorded album with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in December 2022. It will be conducted by one of the most sought-after conductors of our time, Jaap van Zweden of the Netherlands. Zweden has been the Music Director of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra since the 2012/13 season, and under his energetic leadership, the orchestra has risen to new heights of artistic excellence and has been praised by international critics. Recognized as one of Asia's premier orchestras, in 2019 the orchestra was the first Asian orchestra to win the "Orchestra of the Year" award from the British music magazine Gramophone. The recorded piece, Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, is one of the most popular pieces of classical music. And the other piece, Tchaikovsky's last work, Symphony No. 6 "Pathetique," has captivated audiences with its deep and passionate emotion since its premiere. The horns boldly take up the challenge, and the piano moves forward with vigor. The entire orchestra sighs in anguish and begins a passionate struggle for life itself. When Nieuw and Jaap van Zweden join forces in two of Tchaikovsky's most beloved masterpieces, the electrifying Symphony No. 6 and the romantic Piano Concerto No. 1, it is all emotion, all drama, and first and foremost, all melody. Nieuw Nieuw was born into a Chinese musical family in 1997 and was trained by his father from an early age, making his recital debut at the age of six. He is the youngest child prodigy ever admitted to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music's secondary school. He later studied at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and the Juilliard School.
