Pierre Cussac
accordionist and bandoneonist, performs in a wide range of musical styles including numerous classical works which he has transcribed and arranged and a series of newly composed contemporary pieces. He is also active in developing traditional music and improvisation.
Pierre has been invited as guest soloist to play with different orchestras including the Philharmonique de Strasbourg (the Aconcagua concerto) and the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France. His 2016 programme features performances with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in a variety of international venues, in particular the Salle Pleyel, the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Opera de Paris (France), the Tokyo Forum International (Japan), the French Institute in Beirut (Lebanon), the Samos Festival (Greece), the Ljubljana Philharmonia (Slovenia), the Plovdiv Opera (Bulgaria), the Teatro Comunale di Bolzano (Italy), and the Novel Hall in Taipei (Taïwan).
Pierre is involved in a number of music ensembles, and his current project partners are the Quatuor Voce, the violinist Fiona Monbet, the baryton Jean-Marc Salzmann and the tango group Escotilla. He is also active in the live arts scene, collaborating regularly with the theatre companies Compagnie Opéra3 and Arcal, as well as ground-breaking musical projects produced by La Symphonie de Poche, Warning, ONCEIM, Le Balcon,
2e2m or TM+.
Pierre graduated from the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) with a Masters in Accordion and a specialism Prix in Improvisation. He has a Licence de musicologie (bachelor’s degree) from the Université Paris IV Sorbonne. Winner of the Concours général des lycées and laureate of the Fondation CZIFFRA, he was awarded the 2014 Mécénat Musical Société Générale scholarship.
