Info for Starchris
Across the 13 tracks that encompass 'Starchris', Body Meat(real name Christopher Taylor) explores the roughest edges of R&B, IDM, club music, experimental pop, trap, footwork, and metal, only to soften them into something remarkably warm and welcoming, finding catharsis amongst chaos.
With this record, Body Meat embarks on a multi-dimensional endeavor, partly influenced by the interwoven and complex world-building found in role playing video games. Taylor imagines each song as its own distinct ‘level,’ and himself as the avatar moving through an immersive storyline. In its totality, Starchris evokes both the exhilaration and the emotional challenges that are part of any long, transformative journey.
Christopher Taylor aka Body Meat
Christopher Taylor aka Body Meat
professionally known as Body Meat, is an experimental musician based between Philadelphia and New York, USA. Taylor's music career began in Denver's rock scene before he evolved to make experimental electronic pop music. He has released several albums on cassette before his first vinyl EP, Year of the Orc, was released in 2021 on Partisan Records. His debut album, Starchris, was released in 2023.
Taylor is known to "embrace extremes" in his boundary-pushing DIY production style, crafting immersive compositions that combine complex synth textures with far-reaching samples from sources, including video game soundtracks and Nigerian pop vocals. His own voice appears as an instrument in itself, sampled and resampled within kaleidoscopic "weird" looping drum beats.
Taylor is known for his general disregard for traditional time signatures and conventional beat structures, favouring a looser, unquantised approach which takes inspiration from the African diaspora and contemporary artists exploring complex rhythms.
