Mit seinem neuen Projekt begibt sich Star-Pianist Daniil Trifonov auf eine ganz persönliche musikalische Reise über die Kontinente Amerikas. Das erste von insgesamt zwei Alben, My American Story – North, beginnt in den USA. Dort verbrachte Trifonov fast die Hälfte seines Lebens. Das vielfältige Repertoire des Albums »hat mir den Zugang zu vielen Perspektiven, Stilen, Kulturen, Orten, Menschen, Geschichten und Ausdrucksformen eröffnet, die mein Amerika-Erlebnis geformt und geprägt haben«, sagt Trifonov. Die ausgewählten Werke reichen von Jazz und Swing zu Minimal Music und populärer Filmmusik. Zwei Klavierkonzerte bilden den Rahmen des Album: Gershwin’s beliebtes Konzert in F sowie die Weltpremiere eines von Mason Bates eigens für Trifonov komponierten Konzerts. Beide werden vom Philadelphia Orchestra unter Yannick Nézet-Séguin begleitet. Solo Stücke für Klavier sind neben Werken von John Adams, Aaron Copland, John Corigliano und Dave Grusin, Trifonovs eigene Transkription von Jazz Klassikern wie Art Tatums „I Cover the Waterfront“, Bill Evans’ Version von „When I Fall in Love“, Stücke von Hollywood Klassikern Die Firma und American Beauty sowie John Cages legendäres „4’33“.
