Cembaless performs a fresh, creative and colourful rendition of the arrangement of G.F. Handel’s opera Il Floridante (HWV 14). The unusual line-up is evident not only in the instrumentation, but also in the challenge of performing all the vocal parts with a single singer. With wit and eloquence, poetry slammer Florian Wintels delivers a free interpretation of the libretto, guiding the audience through the highs and lows experienced by the opera’s protagonists. In doing so, he increasingly draws on the three central themes of the production: “Faith, Courage and Justice”.

Cembaless
lives up to its name and shines with an ensemble line-up that is rare in early music: one without a harpsichord. Eager to experiment, passionate and sensitive, the ensemble crafts its arrangements and constantly finds new approaches to its concert and spatial design. Cembaless takes the audience into a unique world of sound that combines fiery, rousing and joyful rhythms with intimate moods.

Their successes demonstrate that they have struck a chord, as evidenced by the Audience Award at the 2015 Biagio Marini Competition, the Audience Award at “ZAMUS Spielwiese” in 2016, and the Audience and Early Music Promotion Award from Saarländischer Rundfunk and the Academy for Early Music in Saarland in 2017. In 2020, the ensemble was accepted into the Eeemerging+ (Emerging European Ensembles) training programme, supported by the “Creative Europe Programme of the European Union”.
