Leidenschaft, Musik zum Tanzen, Weinen und als wundervoller Wegbegleiter – “Love Goes” ist wahrlich ein großartiger, musikalischer Blumenstrauss, welchen Sam Smith mit größter Leidenschaft zusammengestellt hat. Zum Entstehungsprozess erzählte Sam in einem Interview mit der britischen Vogue: “Normally I go in the studio, sit with the piano and just cry out and, like, write really sad stuff,” Sam explains. “But [this time], I went in the studio and [it] became this safe space where I could just, like, express myself and dance and write.”
Das Album enthält 11 Tracks und 6 Bonus-Tracks, welche in Kollaboration mit Künstlern wie Calvin Harris, Demi Lovato, Normani und Burna Boy enstanden sind. Somit werden in dem Album Nuancen von verschiedenen Genres widergespiegelt, was diesem einen ganz besonderen Glanz verleiht.
Die Thematik des Albums dreht sich aber nicht nur um Diamanten. Das florale Cover ordnet jedem Song eine Blume zu, welche sich voneinander genauso unterscheiden wie die unterschiedlichen Genres. Dafür arbeitete Sam mit dem weltbekannten britischen Modefotografen und Filmemacher Alasdair McLellan (Vogue, Kim Jones, Louis Vuitton) zusammen.
Für „Love Goes“ hat Sam eine namentliche Auswahl angesehener Mitwirkender wie Steve Mac (Ed Sheeran, Celine Dion), Shellback/MXM (Robyn, Pink, Britney Spears), Labrinth, Guy Lawrence (Disclosure) und Jimmy Napes gewonnen.
Über das Album sagt Sam: „The last two years has been the most experimental time of my life, personally but also musically. Every time I went into the studio, I promised myself I would shoot for the stars and have no limitations. The result has been so magical and so therapeutic and fun. Listen to these songs with an open heart and treat each song like a different flower from the garden, have fun with them.”
Der Oscar- und mehrfache Grammy-Gewinner veröffentlicht somit bereits das dritte Album, nachdem Sams letztes Album "The Thrill Of It All" 2017 an der Spitze der britischen Albumcharts und der US Billboard 200 landete und das Debütalbum „In the Lonely Hour“ von 2014 mit Gold in Deutschland ausgezeichnet wurde.
