It is the opaque and mysterious elements of music that we humans always want to get lost in. British singer–songwriter Keir understood this right from the beginning of his career and made it the credo of his work. Inspired by shining lights of the 20th century such as Aretha Frankling, David Bowie, andPrince, the 25-year-old singer with an almost muscular timbre makes larger-than-life pop music for the stadiums of the 21st century and thus follows in the footsteps of exactly those musicians he admired so much as a child and teenager. “Music is my outlet for everything: fear, love, sadness, ecstasy” – and it’s audible and palpable in every note. His current single “Shiver” demonstrates this in an impressive way, but like so many of his songs, it was created in an impromptu studio in a friend’s kitchen. Approaching things in an unprepared and untamed way is his style, which often enough leads to such epic results as his latest single, “Lemonade”. This description may sound exaggerated, but it isn’t: This man has the potential to follow the greats of pop history, as the next few years will doubtless show. Keir
heißt eigentlich Keir Gordon und stammt aus Bristol. Schon als Kind hatte der heutige Singer-Songwriter ein Faible für Pop-Musik und beehrte seine Familie wohl oder übel mit regelmäßigen Exklusiv-Performances. Musik war dann aber doch mehr als nur kindliche Obsession und Keir meinte es so ernst, dass er am British and Irish Modern Music Institute studierte. Der Unterricht erschien ihm damals trocken, aber umgeben von einem musik-affinen Umfeld kam es zu ersten Live-Auftritten, die Keir schließlich sogar auf den Radar des Radiosenders BBC brachten. Das sollte entscheidend sein, denn nachdem der Singer-Songwriter 2016 seine Debüt-Single veröffentlichte, durfte er im Ramen des Newcomer-Formats BBC Introducing in den legendären Maida Vale Studios in London auftreten, durch die einst schon die Beatles gewandelt sind. Mit Hilfe von diesem Sprungbrett geht es Schlag auf Schlag: Keir bespielt das Glastonbury-Festival, spielt erste Support- und dann Headline-Shows und veröffentlicht bis heute immer wieder verstreute Singles. Der Ton entspricht dabei den Festivalbühnen: Groß, wuchtig, mit schweren Drums und verzerrten Gitarren, die den Pathos und die Dramatik in Keirs starker Stimme nur noch verstärken. Obwohl das nach einem ausgeklügelten Konzept klingt, entstehen die Songs oft durch Improvisation bei Sessions, so auch die neueste Single „Shiver“.
