Info for Traditional Christmas Carols from King's

Seit 1928 strahlt die BBC am Heiligabend die Sendung A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols aus. Der Name rührt vom alljährlich unveränderten Ablauf: Neun Bibelstellen der Weihnachtsgeschichte (Lessons) und neun Weihnachtslieder (Carols) werden abwechselnd vorgetragen. Der Choir of King s College aus Cambridge, seit 1928 fester Bestandteil der Übertragung, erlangte durch dieses alljährliche Ritual zu Weltruhm und etablierte sich als wichtige Referenz für geschmackvolle, weihnachtliche Chormusik. Das vorliegende Album vereint traditionelle englische Christmas Carols (Conventry Carol, O Come All Ye Faithful), modernere Kompositionen von John Rutter (What Sweeter Music) und Arvo Pärt (Bogoróditse Dyévo) und beliebte Weihnachtslieder aus Deutschland (In Dulci Jubilo), Frankreich (Quittez, Pasteurs), Polen und den Niederlanden (Heer Jezus Heeft een Hofken) zu einem stimmungsvollen, abwechslungsreichen Weihnachtsprogramm. Die Aufnahmen entstanden 1994 unter der Leitung von Stephen Cleobury.
