Info for Burlesque

"Mancio’s tales of love, family, loss and hope are deceptively simple on paper but touchingly persuasive when she sings them. There’s no particular rhyme scheme or verse form, but all the songs follow the same pattern in performance, with a piano solo in the middle. Broadbent seems incapable of playing an unmelodic phrase, and these brief solos are all gloriously free and imaginative, while always in keeping with the mood of the piece." (jazzbluesnews.com)

Alan Broadbent won his first Grammy for an orchestral arrangement of “When I Fall In Love” for Natalie Cole’s second video with her dad. He took home his second for an orchestral accompaniment written for the incomparable jazz pianist and singer Shirley Horn. And let’s not forget the two Grammy nods as a soloist and with his jazz trio for best instrumental performances with music giants Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, and Keith Jarrett. Since he began his career as a pianist and arranger for Woody Herman’s band, Australian-born Alan Broadbent’s career has been on fire. Nelson Riddle, David Rose and Johnny Mandel invited him into the studio scene. Diana Krall asked him to conduct her “Live in Paris” DVD. And, Glenn Frey had him arrange all the strings for his “After Hours” CD. And, since we’re into a bit of name-dropping, when you listen to Sir Paul McCartney’s “Kisses on the Bottom” with the London Symphony, six sensational string arrangements are courtesy of Alan, too. Yep, Alan’s collaborated with too many stars on too many albums to mention, including his own…

Alan Broadbent
Born in 1952, I’ve been a professional musician all my working life. At age 17 I had my first professional engagement as the guitar player in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom with the Charles Barlow big band which was a great training ground.

My main instrument is guitar and I also play bass and piano/keyboards.

My work over the last 30 years has been composing and performing music for TV and I have forged an excellent relationship with my publisher/manager Northstar Music who have given me the opportunity to write music for all forms of media and also to write and record albums of music that I really enjoy,
