Info for Sonidos Colombianos

De Chonta, a Colombian musical quartet, is redefining the musical landscape by fusing the rich traditions of the Colombian coast with contemporary jazz influences. With a quartet of talented musicians, De Chonta has forged a distinctive sound that captures the essence of Colombia's musical diversity.

The quartet, composed of Alejandro Jaramillo on saxophone, Luis Bernardo Durango on piano, Juan Manuel Calderón on bass and Santiago Bedoya on percussion, came together in late 2019 with a clear goal: to create an original musical proposal that celebrates Colombian roots. Their music is a perfect fusion of the traditional and the contemporary, where melodies and improvisations intertwine in a unique harmony that delights their listeners.

De Chonta has been garnering accolades and recognition throughout the country, having participated in a number of renowned festivals and won prestigious awards. Among their most recent achievements are the selection in the XIII Festival de Jazz de Villa de Leyva in 2023 and the victory in the call of the Festival Internacional El Gesto Noble in the same year. In addition, in 2022, they took third place at the Voces del Jazz Festival in Cartagena and stood out as winners of the Antioquia Vive la Música festival in the Jazz and other sounds category. Their talent also led them to be selected for the Festival de Jazz del Oriente in Marinilla, Antioquia, in 2020.

Not only have they made a name for themselves at festivals, but they have also captivated audiences at iconic venues in the region, such as the Jazz Club, Cubo Universo Creativo, Teatro Municipal de El Retiro, Café Teatro Pablo Tobón Uribe and Teatro Estudio de El Carmen de Viboral, among others.

De Chonta is constantly evolving and promises to take their unique music to new horizons as they continue to inspire listeners with their vibrant fusion of Colombian coastal and modern jazz. Keep an eye out for this up-and-coming musical group as they make their mark on the Colombian music scene.
