Joe Gideon

Biographie Joe Gideon

Joe Gideon
first came to wider attention with his band Bikini Atoll. Their album ‘Moratoria’ (Bella Union, 2003) was well received, with lead track “Desolation Highway” featuring in the film “My Little Eye”. Their second album ‘Liar’s Exit’ (2005), recorded with Steve Albini, received glowing reviews from NME and Q magazine amongst others.

Soon after, Joe decided to hone his craft as a songwriter and formed Joe Gideon & The Shark, a two-piece band with his sister Viva. Their debut album, “Harum Scarum” (Bronzerat records – 2009) achieved a rare 6-stars-out-of-5 review in Time Out magazine. Joe Gideon & The Shark toured with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, and Seasick Steve. By the time their second album ‘Freakish’ came out in 2012, again to great reviews, Joe and Viva had decided to move on.

Having befriended Bad Seed Jim Sclavunos, Joe invited him to contribute drums on his debut solo LP, ‘Versa Vice’ (Bronzerat records, 2015). Joe Gideon’s second solo LP ‘Armagideon’ (Clouds Hill, 2020), was released just before the world closed its doors. The record was written and recorded with Jim and bandmate Gris-De-Lin, with the trio playing all the instruments in densely layered arrangements, which included an army of saxophones, an antique piano, choirs, and a junkyard’s trove of percussion.
