Chet Faker
whose real name is Nicholas James Murphy, is an Australian singer, producer, and songwriter. His music career began in 2011 with a viral cover of No Diggity by Blackstreet on the SoundCloud platform.
In March 2012, he released his first EP, Thinking in Textures, which included tracks such as I’m into You and received the Australian Independent Records Award (AIR). In collaboration with Flume, he released the Lockjaw EP (2013) and later featured on The Trouble with Us with Marcus Marr (2015).
His debut studio album, Built on Glass, was released in April 2014 and reached number one on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart. It includes songs like Talk Is Cheap and Gold, both of which received multiple platinum certifications. The album won the ARIA Award for Best Male Artist and earned several other nominations and accolades.
This was followed by international tours and performances at festivals such as Coachella, Glastonbury, and Primavera.
In 2016, Murphy announced that he would release music under his birth name, Nick Murphy. This shift included the Missing Link EP (2017), the studio album Run Fast Sleep Naked (2019), and the follow-up project Music for Silence (2020).
In July 2021, he returned to the Chet Faker name with the album Hotel Surrender, which features the singles Low, So Long, So Lonely, and Get High. In 2024, he released a 10th anniversary expanded edition of Built on Glass, which included remixes, rarities, and live recordings.
