BLOCK4 Recorder Quartet
Biography BLOCK4 Recorder Quartet
BLOCK4
is an award-winning recorder quartet, formed in London in 2012. We are passionate about performing an eclectic mixture of Early consort music and Contemporary music for recorders, and we have worked with a number of composers on creating new pieces to expand our instrument's repertoire. With a centuries-long history, the recorder has a lot of music to choose from, and we love to take inspiration from all parts of this history when creating our programmes.
Since forming more than 10 years ago, BLOCK4 has performed nationally and internationally in venues of all kinds - from concert halls and churches, to pubs and clubs. The quartet was the 2014 winner of the Royal Overseas League ensemble competition, the 2016 winner of the Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition (USA), and a 2018 semi-finalist of the M-Prize, Michigan.
The most important thing to us is bringing the recorder and its rich repertoire to as wide an audience as possible, showing the world what our instrument (in all its shapes and sizes) is capable of!
