Ledisi
Soulful singer/songwriter and New Orleans native, Ledisi, is a celebrated R&B recording artist who caught the attention of Verve Music Group in 2007, while recording her third album, Lost & Found. The album earned her two Grammy Award nominations, including “Best New Artist” in 2008, receiving nine total Grammy nominations to date.
An occasional vocal coach and frequent “Artist in Residence” at The Berklee College of Music, Ledisi also served as Governor and Board Member at The San Francisco Chapter for two terms before given a new role as a Goodwill Ambassador, a role that had only been held by herself and Verdine White, at the time.
Ledisi has been a welcomed guest at the White House, performing on multiple occasions during the Obama administration, earning her a place in the pantheon of the best soul singer of her generation. “Ledisi is one of our favorite people,” said President Obama. But Ledisi is much more than a singer — she is an advocate of the arts, an educator, author, entrepreneur, philanthropist, songwriter, producer, and innovator.
As an advocate for, and participant in, former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Turnaround Arts Program, Ledisi donates her time to encourage students to explore the possibilities through the arts, inspiring them to explore their minds creatively. The Turnaround Arts Program‘s main objective is to transform priority schools through the strategic use of the arts, engaging students in well-rounded education and exude confidence, critical thinking, and creativity as a result.
