Efterklang haben heute die dritte Single “Uden ansigt”, von ihrem kommenden fünften Studio Album „Altid Sammen“ veröffentlicht, dem ersten Album in ihrer Muttersprache Dänisch.

Uden ansigt’ wurde vom früheren Efterklang Mitglied Rune Mølgaard geschrieben (er verließ die Band bereits vor dem 2007er Album Parades, aber war weiterhin als Co Writer aktiv für Songs wie Magic Chair’s ‘Modern Drift’ und ‘Sedna’ von Piramida). Im neuen Song „Uden Ansigt“ hört man den Komponist und früheres Sigur Ros Mitglied Kjartan Sveinsson am Piano, sowie Sir Was (Joel Wästberg) an den Drums, Bert Cools und Petur Ben an den Gitarren und Indré Jurgelevičiūtė sing die Backing Vocals.

Sänger Casper Clausen erklärt die Inspiration hinter ‘Uden ansigt’ (‘Ohne Gesicht’): “The lyrics are like pictures to me, based on a moment I once had when biking in Copenhagen. It was raining heavily, everybody packed away under umbrellas, hoodies, hats etc. Faceless, genderless, ageless, colourless. My vision was blurred out and those bodies were moving through the street like faceless ghosts of a Japanese Anime movie, simultaneously haunted, alone and united at the same time.”

‘Uden ansigt’ wird flankiert von einem starken Lyric Video, produziert von dem in Berlin lebenden Jonny Sanders. In dem Video sind sowohl die dänischen, als auch die englischen Lyrics zu sehen und zeigt das wunderschöne Album Artwork, welches von Hvass&Hannibal & SeenCGI designed wurde.

Im Laufe des Tages hosten Efterklang einen Takeover des The Lake Radios – dem freien online Radio, das sie 2014 mitgegründet haben. Sie werden Live ab 20 Uhr übertragen und nicht nur alle involvierten Beteiligten anrufen, die am Album mitgewirkt haben, sondern auch neue Musik premieren!

Sieben Jahre nach ihrer letzten Studioveröffentlichung, einer längeren Phase, in der es viele Veränderungen gab, die Bandmitglieder viel erlebt, sie viele Dinge überdacht und neue kreative Wege eingeschlagen haben, melden sich Efterklang mit ihrem fünften Album Altid Sammen zurück. Es ist ihr bislang eindrucksvollstes, schlüssigstes Werk, weil am längsten gereift: Mutig und ambitioniert, zugleich aber auch emotional fesselnd, klar verwurzelt. Den Kern dieser neuen Songs bildet noch immer jener Hang zum Experiment, der schon auf ihrem vor 15 Jahren veröffentlichten Tripper-Debüt (2004) ganz klar zu erkennen war. Wobei Efterklang heute noch natürlicher damit umgehen, noch elementarer wirken: Wie eine Urgewalt, die ihr ganzes Potenzial entfaltet.

Bei den Songs auf “Altid Sammen“ geht es um Glauben und Zusammensein.,” so Casper Clausen und führt weiter aus: “Not in a religious way – none of us are believers of a defined religion. The words are searching for meaning in intimate relationships, in nature, in death and eternity. The bonds we create; to gather, hold hands, sing or share a moment together. We’re all connected, across nations, age, sex and gender. We come together with all of our backgrounds, and we move apart in all sorts of directions, always together.”

Marking the group’s return seven years after their last studio release – a period of transition, of high adventures and creative questing – Efterklang’s fifth album Altid Sammen is their finest yet. Bold and ambitious, yet engaging on a primal and emotional level, the album is steeped in the experimentation that has been their trademark since their debut album, 2004’s Tripper, but is more elemental than they’ve yet dared to be. The music of Altid Sammen (the title means “Always Together”) is deep and sonorous. Their trademark tapestry of acoustic and electronic elements, woven together so expertly one hardly notices how each strengthens the other, has never sounded more accomplished. Sounds from the baroque and digital eras strike perfect harmonies together, bound together by Casper Clausen’s warm, weathered and wise vocals. The album will be released on the band's own label Rumraket in the Nordic and on 4AD in rest of the world.

Approached by B.O.X – a Belgian ensemble founded by lute player Pieter Theuns, performing new music with baroque orchestration – Casper Clausen (vocal), Mads Brauer (synth, electronics) and Rasmus Stolberg (bass) composed material for a joint performance at Theuns’ own mixMass festival in Antwerp in January 2018. But the music they began writing for this performance soon took on a life of its own. The performance left Efterklang fired-up to commit this work to tape. “We walked offstage feeling super-elevated,” says Stolberg. “Let’s get into a studio and document this.” Their initial plan was to record the album solely in collaboration with the B.O.X ensemble. But later that summer the trio appeared at Berlin’s PEOPLE festival, a 7-day experience where musicians from around the world (including Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner, Beirut’s Zach Condon, Justin Vernon, Feist and the Dessner brothers, along with 150 more artists) collaborate and perform in various new ensembles. As well as performing with various friends new and old, the trio also played together as Efterklang, revisiting the new songs, but this time with other musicians onstage. “And we realised then, these songs deserved our full attention – the scope of possibilities was inspiring,” says Stolberg. “It was time to make a new Efterklang album.”
