Info zu Something in Between

Trio Zadig

Trio Zadig
Founded in 2014, Trio Zadig is comprised of violinist Boris Borgolotto, cellist Marc Girard Garcia, and pianist Ian Barber. The Trio gained critical praise for their impressive 11 international competition prizes, including First Prize at the Fnapec Competition and second prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in the US. Currently, the Trio is Ensemble-in-Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel where they are mentored under the direction of the Artemis Quartet. Their DC debut at the Phillips will include Ravel’s Piano Trio in A minor, Bernstein’s Fantasy on themes from West Side Story, and some works from Toulouse-born composer, Benjamin Attahir.

Awarded 11 international prizes, Trio Zadig captivates audiences with its flawless virtuosity, irresistible enthusiasm and masculine elegance.

Friendship is at the core of the Trio’s strength and authenticity. Boris Borgolotto and Marc Girard Garcia are childhood friends who studied together at the Paris Conservatoire National de Musique and at the University of Music in Vienna. Upon their return to France, they crossed paths with Ian Barber, an American pianist from the renowned André Watts’ studio at the University of Indiana. The chemistry between them is immediately apparent. All three men are drawn by a strong desire to live out their passion as sincerely as possible and therefore decided to combine their desires together and found the Zadig Trio.

In just a few years, the Zadig Trio has become very successful and won numerous awards, including the First Prize of the “Fnapec Musiques d’Ensemble” - in the footsteps of renowned ensembles like the Ysaÿe Quartet, the Ébène Quartet and the Wanderer Trio - as well as the Second Prize of the Fischoff Competition (USA).

The trio has performed all over the world, from the US to the Republic of Congo, and played in several prestigious concert halls such as Wigmore Hall, Shanghai City Theater and Paris’ Philharmonic and Salle Cortot. In parallel with this demanding schedule, the Zadig Trio has met with great artists who have contributed to the development of its musical expression, most notably Ivry Gitlis and Menahem Pressler.

Due to its auspicious beginning, the Zadig Trio has been invited to several broadcast shows: « Génération Jeunes Interprètes » by Gaëlle Le Gallic and « Le nouveau Rendez-Vous » by Laurent Goumarre on French Public Radio (France Musique & France Inter) as well as « Puisque vous avez du talent » by Laurent Graulus on Musiq’3 (RTBF) in Belgium.

The Zadig Trio is currently a resident of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel alongside the Artemis Quartet. It is also the first resident of ProQuartet and is supported by the Banque Populaire Foundation.

This season’s itinerary will highlight the trio’s commitment to openness and sharing. First the Zadig Trio will tackle the piano quartet repertoire with violists Krzysztof Chorzelski (Belcea Quartet) and Yung-Hsin Chang (Hermès Quartet). It will also participate in a project with the composer Benjamin Attahir, currently in residence at the Villa Medicis. Finally, because its members firmly believe in the universal power of classical music to break down barriers, the Zadig Trio will continue to engage in humanitarian and social projects, notably by playing for prison inmates and handicapped children.

From Haydn to contemporary composers, the Zadig Trio’s audacity and freshness gives youth and vitality to the trio repertoire. The depth and sincerity of its interpretations, as well as its vivid poetic sound, make it the creator of captivating performances.
