Auf diesem erfindungsreich programmierten, sehr persönlichen Album verschachteln Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux und ihr Duopartner Joseph Havlat drei große Schubert-Werke für Violine und Klavier mit Instrumentalversionen seiner Lieder, die sie einander gegenüberstellen, um sowohl Verbindungen als auch Kontraste zwischen ihnen herauszustellen. Die heitere Sonate in A-Dur steht neben dem düsteren, schwermütigen und doch lyrischen „Du liebst mich nicht“ (bei dem Saluste-Bridoux die tiefste Saite ihrer Geige auf Dis abstimmt, um eine raue, bratschenartige Qualität hervorzubringen). Sei mir gegrüsst„ entpuppt sich als melodische Quelle für die späte Fantasie in C-Dur, deren “ungarische" Stilmerkmale sich auch im Rondo in h-Moll wiederfinden. Saluste-Bridoux und Havlat haben bewusst einen ernsten Ansatz vermieden, der sich auf die Nähe dieser Werke zum frühen Tod des Komponisten konzentriert, und sind „von Untergangsstimmung und Düsternis weggegangen und haben versucht, Schuberts Albernheit und zuweilen beunruhigende Einfachheit hervorzuheben“.

Saluste-Bridoux ist Hauptpreisträgerin der Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) 2021 International Auditions und ein Classic FM 2022 ‚Rising Star‘. Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux
Born in France, violinist Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux is the 2021 grand prize winner of Young Classical Artists Trust and Concert Guild International Competition. Nominated as a 2022 Rising Star Artist by Classic FM, she made her debut with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in 2023 and the CBSO Orchestra in 2024. Earlier this year she returned to the Wigmore Hall, performing alongside her duo partner, Joseph Havlat.

Her debut solo album “Ostinata,” released in 2022 by Champs Hill Records, received critical acclaim from Gramophone describing her as “an artist with something of her own to say, and something worth hearing” and The Strad for its “lyrical flow and tonal beauty.” Her next CD, featuring Schubert works recorded with Joseph Havlat, is scheduled for release with Delphian Records later this year.

An avid chamber musician, Charlotte has participated in prestigious festivals across the world, such as the Australian Chamber Music Festival, Open Chamber Music at Prussia Cove. Her performances also include appearances at the Wigmore Hall, BBC Prom with the 12 Ensemble, and the Franck Piano Quintet at the Gstaadt Festival alongside Alina Ibragimova, Lawrence Power, Sol Gabetta, and Bertrand Chamayou.

Charlotte recently joined the Chiaroscuro quartet, an award-winning string quartet that performs on historical instruments.

Charlotte enjoys playing a wide variety of repertoire, including more rarely heard solo concertos by Panufnik, Vasks, and Joachim, the latter which she has performed alongside Bernstein’s Serenade with the Budapest Concerto Orchestra, reflects her adventurous musical spirit. A student of Alina Ibragimova and Natasha Boyarsky, Charlotte graduated from London’s Royal College of Music and the Yehudi Menuhin School. She currently plays a Giovanni Battista Rogeri violin, and an Edwin Clement bow kindly loaned to her by the Swiss Foundation Boubo-Music.

Joseph Havlat
studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London for 6 years (2012-18) with Professor Joanna MacGregor, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s of music with distinction, including awards for exceptional merit in studentship and the highest recital mark for a postgraduate pianist.

During his time at the Royal Academy of Music, Joseph performed concertos by György Ligeti, Olivier Messiaen and Igor Stravinsky and collaborated with a range of composers, including Michael Finnissy, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Gerald Barry and Thomas Larcher.

While in the United Kingdom, Joseph was accepted as part of the 2019-20 St John’s Smith Square Young Artists’ Scheme, was first in the solo keyboard section of the 2019 Royal Over- Seas League Annual Music Competition and received the 2019 Oxford Lieder Young Artist Award with Australian mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean.

Born in Hobart, Joseph has performed as a soloist and as part of chamber groups in major concert venues around the United Kingdom, Europe, America, Japan and Australia.

Founder and inaugural artistic director of contemporary music collective Ensemble x.y, Joseph frequently performs in many chamber music collaborations, including with Tritium Trio, Trio Derazey and Duo Ex Libris. He also plays with the London Symphony Orchestra Percussion Ensemble, where he recorded the premiere of John Adams’ two-piano work Roll Over Beethoven for the LSO Live label.
