Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre present a new recording of Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, the iconic opening Kyrie of which is among the most cherished religious music ever written. Mozart performed parts of the Mass in 1783, but the score remained unfinished, making the use of a scholarly edition necessary for a complete performance. Despite its unfinished state, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor has gained popularity and now enjoys a place in the choral core repertory. For this recording, made in connection to live performances, Minkowski has chosen Helmut Eder’s 1985 edition for the Neue Mozart-Ausgabe. He performs it in a chamber-like setting with his regular ensemble Les Musiciens du Louvre, a small ripieno choir and four outstanding soloists: Ana Maria Labin, Ambroisine Bré, Stanislas de Barbeyrac and Norman Patzke. Since its foundation in 1982, and under the baton of its founder and musical director Marc Minkowski, Les Musiciens du Louvre have developed into one of the world’s best period-instrument ensembles, with a vast discography. This recording marks their PENTATONE debut.

Les Musiciens du Louvre
wurden 1982 von Marc Minkowski gegründet und avancierten innerhalb kurzer Zeit zu einem der bedeutendsten europäischen Ensembles der historischen Aufführungspraxis. Den Repertoireschwerpunkt der Formation bildeten lange Zeit die französische Barockmusik sowie die Werke Georg Friedrich Händels. Dann begann sich das Repertoire des Ensembles mit einer erfolgreichen Produktion von Monteverdis »L’incoronazione di Poppea« beim Festival in Aix-en-Provence sowie mit Werken der Frühklassik und der Klassik zunehmend zu erweitern. Seit 1996 ist das Orchester in Grenoble ansässig und veranstaltet dort alljährlich einen Konzertzyklus. Als Opern- und Konzertorchester spielt das Ensemble in ganz Europa und ist regelmäßig bei internationalen Festivals zu Gast, so auch seit 1995 beim Musikfest Bremen. Zu den jüngsten Erfolgen im Bereich der Oper zählen Aufführungen von »Orfeo ed Euridice« in Salzburg, »Le nozze di Figaro« am Theater an der Wien, »Don Giovanni«, »Così fan tutte« und »Der fliegende Holländer« an der Opéra Royal de Versailles, »Alceste« an der Opéra de Paris sowie »Armide« und »Alcina« an der Wiener Staatsoper. Nach Einspielungen der Londoner Sinfonien von Haydn, der Sinfonien Schuberts, Dietschs »Le vaisseau fantôme« und Bachs »Johannes-Passion« steht aktuell eine Aufnahme von Mozarts c-Moll-Messe an.
