Info zu Jr. Thomas in the Eraserhood
A bold new chapter for soul-reggae visionary Jr. Thomas unfolds on Jr. Thomas in the Eraserhood — a deeply personal, sonically rich album recorded in collaboration with Philadelphia-based production duo Eraserhood Sound.
Known for his work with Jr. Thomas & The Volcanos, singer-songwriter Thomas McDowall (aka Jr. Thomas) began writing a new collection of songs that demanded a fresh sonic approach. After hearing Eraserhood’s standout productions for Kendra Morris, Angelo Outlaw, and Say She She, Thomas flew to Philadelphia with longtime collaborator Raynier Jacildo (The Volcanos, The Black Keys) for a four-day session in Questlove’s former studio — now home to Eraserhood Sound. The result is a powerful, analog-crafted album rooted in soul, reggae, psych, and storytelling.
From stripped-down demos to live-to-tape recordings, this album showcases the dynamic chemistry between Jr. Thomas and Eraserhood Sound — with contributions from a stellar cast of musicians including Maxwell Perla, Vincent John, Ron Kerber, Angelo Outlaw, and more.
Jr. Thomas is the musical moniker of Thomas McDowall, a Minneapolis-born artist whose sound is deeply rooted in classic Jamaican reggae, soul, and ‘70s singer-songwriter traditions. He began his career as a member of ska outfit The Dropsteppers and later formed Jr. Thomas & The Volcanos, a Los Angeles-based band revered for its modern take on vintage reggae.
Beyond group projects, Jr. Thomas has explored a wide sonic range through projects like Jr. Thomas & Cutlass Cream, and operates his own studio, Junior Grove Recordings, in Maple Grove, Minnesota. His work blends reverence for the past with honest, forward-thinking artistry — making him a vital voice in modern soul and reggae.
