Info zu Killing Me Softly (2025 Remaster)
Roberta Flack's fourth album, Killing Me Softly, was originally released in 1973 and features the amazing 'Killing Me Softly with His Song'.
Composed by Charles Fox with lyrics by Norman Gimbel, the first version of 'Killing Me Softly' was recorded by singer Lori Lieberman, whose version Roberta Flack heard on an airplane's in-flight programming. This led her to immediately track down Fox down through producer Quincy Jones. According to Fox, she called and said, 'This is Roberta Flack. We haven't met but I am going to record your song.' The Fugees then brought it to a whole new generation with their 1996 hit version.
Killing Me Softly reached No. 3 on the Billboard Top LPs & Tape and No. 2 on the Soul LPs chart. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the album gold on August 27, 1973, and double platinum on January 30, 2006, denoting shipments of 2 million copies in the United States. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Album of the Year, which it lost to Stevie Wonder's 1973 album Innervisions. The album's title track was released as a single and topped the Billboard Hot 100. The title track won the 1974 Grammy Award for Record of the Year.
'Flack creates a dramatic tension that keeps her songs taut and she moves through them with the careful grace of a tightrope artist.' (Rolling Stone, 1973)
'Inspired by a Don McLean gig at L.A.'s Troubadour, folk singer Lori Lieberman took her idea for the song 'Killing Me Softly' to Gimbel and Fox. Flack later heard Lieberman’s recording on an in-flight radio station and 'absolutely freaked,' she said.' (Rolling Stone)
