LIFE
Dressed in black, with a rattling set of hook-heavy energetic songs LIFE are not to be ignored. Four workers from Hull who flirt with pop culture, twisted word plays, wasted youth and the horrors of 21st century consumerism. In a London-centric industry dominated by co-writes and privilege, LIFE bring authenticity to the table. Irresistible dark pop that holds a dirty mirror up to modern life.
No holds barred, no punches pulled, LIFE are as forceful a group as you’re likely to find in 2016. The black-clad Hull group deal in a sneering, ferocious sucker-punch of punk-rock - a mission statement that’s perfectly presented in current single ‘Popular Music’ which, after dropping in February this year, has caused an instant frenzy on the airwaves bagging multiple spot plays from Annie Mac, Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart on Radio 1 as well as it being relentlessly hammered by the man himself Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music. Furthermore LIFE’s breakthrough single ‘GoGoGo’ also scored well on both BBC6 and Radio 1 and earned the band a place on Radio 1’s best of BBC Introducing list 2015.
“Totally off my face, I listen to popular music,” Mez gleams, a cutting reflection on populist culture that’s whisked up by the band and launched forward with hundred-mile-an-hour pace and a thousand-yard stare. They comment on youth culture and the lure of consumerism with aplomb and embody their DIY ethos and image totally and naturally. LIFE are an unhinged depiction of modern punk. Keep your ears peeled as they amp up the mania and buckle up for LIFE’s thrill-ride as 2016 is only gonna get faster.
"Politically astute, angry, intelligent, gritty and air-punchingly brilliant."
