Info for Shelter

New Yorker, Ruth Mirsky (ex The Drums) and producer Mads Martinsen from Tromsø bridge the Atlantic with their project The Familiar, developing their rich, effecting electronic sound via email and texts.

It’s synthpop but not as you know it, Mirsky’s vocals lending the song a lived-in human quality with her voice at times reminiscent of the latter releases of the iconic Marianne Faithfull.

Right from the opening with its soft piano arpeggio and broad musical brushstrokes, the song sweeps the listener in a quiet storm of emotion and imagery.

Too uptempo to be a ballad, too knowing to be anodyne pop, instead Stuck Together is an intelligent, thoughtful approach to accessible and emotive electronica.

The Familiar

The Familiar
Ruth Mirsky (New York) and Mads Martinsen (Norway) channel open and honest lyrics over an arrangement that is understated yet profoundly moving. It’s indie-electro but with a Nordic twist, Mirsky’s emotion-laden performance jousting gently with the subtle shades of the melody. You can hear hints of Röyksopp in there, as well as the more reflective moments of Moloko (circa Forever More), which gives you an idea of how good Control is.

This album contains no booklet.
