Info for Soy Gitano (Remastered)
"Soy Gitano" originally released on November 20, 1989. Produced by Ricardo Pachón, the record features contributions from Tomatito, Manuel Soler, Raimundo Amador, Vicente Amigo, Carles Benavent, and Tino di Geraldo, as well as the now-legendary sessions at Abbey Road with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
"Soy Gitano" became the best-selling album in flamenco history and earned Camarón his first gold record within its first month of release. It also featured the largest production budget for a flamenco album up to that time.
"Soy Gitano" was the last studio album Camarón recorded in his lifetime, and the weight of that circumstance is felt. With a symphonic orchestra, the album sought to expand flamenco toward more accessible territory without losing its essence. The result is uneven—the arrangements sometimes overwhelm the voice—but when Camarón sings stripped of ornaments, as in some bulerías, the truth of the cantaor is irrefutable. A historical document and an imperfect work.
