Info for B-A-C-H "Hommage à ..."

The German radio broadcaster Deutschlandfunk Kultur, the German Music Council, and GENUIN once again jointly present the debut album of a promising young musician: organist Aurel Dawidiuk is the winner of the 2022 German Music Competition in the organ category. His stellar career, however, goes far beyond that, as Dawidiuk is also celebrating his first international successes as a pianist and conductor. Exploring the theme of B-A-C-H in his organ debut, the major organ works assembled here span three centuries and include music by Johann Sebastian Bach himself, Johann Krebs, Franz Liszt, Zsigmond Szathmáry, and Max Reger – a rich diversity of music covering a wide range of styles!

Aurel Dawidiuk, organ

Aurel Dawidiuk
As an organist, pianist and conductor, Aurel Dawidiuk is one of the most versatile young musicians of his generation. He studied orchestral conducting with Johannes Schlaefli and Christoph Mathias-Mueller and piano with Till Fellner at the Zurich University of the Arts, as well as organ with Martin Sander at the Basel Academy of Music.

For his playing he has been awarded first prizes in numerous competitions, among others he won the London Organ Competition in 2018, in 2019 the International “Young Organist” Competition Moscow and the TONALi19 Piano Competition in Hamburg, in 2022 the Prize of the German Music Competition in the organ category (not awarded since 2001), and in 2023 the International Hans von Bülow Competition in the conducting from the piano category in Meiningen.

He works as a soloist with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Sinfonietta Köln, and the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra and can be heard in halls such as the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Konzerthaus Dortmund, and the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin. He also appears at festivals such as the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and in many important churches in Germany and other European countries. In the 2023/2024 season he will make his debut in the Philharmonie Berlin and the Kulturpalast Dresden.

In 2021 the young musician was admitted to the Conducting Forum of the German Music Council – a promotion program for young conductors. He has already conducted well-known orchestras such as the Bern Symphony Orchestra, the Basel Chamber Orchestra, and the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra.

Aurel Dawidiuk has received scholarships from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, the Carl Bechstein Foundation, and the Mozart Society in Dortmund for many years.
