Info for Space
Less than two years after the fantastic The Ride, the most rocking icon from the Belgian music scene sends a lively, spacy longplayer into the world on which his fantastic band members get all the freedom they need to give free rein to their enormous musical baggage and creativity. Despite their flourishing solo careers, the artists continue to find a growing pleasure in playing with Daan that makes them rise above themselves. First single DUMB is already glowing proof of that. Or as Daan himself says: ‘DUMB is a call to reunite us all, even if we are very different, in a long sweet positive parade...’
With a career that spans more than three decades, Daan Stuyven - joined by his band known as DAAN - has established himself as one of the country's most idiosyncratic and influential artists. From the raw electronica of Victory and The Player to the atmospheric melancholy of Manhay or Le Franc Belge: DAAN is a musical chameleon who effortlessly breaks genres and manages to surprise again and again. Two years ago, with The Ride, he took us on a trip between dark synths and poetic lyrics, which was also the musical process of coming to terms with the death of his father and sister.
Immediately afterwards, Stuyven started working on successor Space, which comes out today, although in between he made some interludes with Love for Music and Glints, allowing an even wider audience to get to know him. DAAN's ninth studio album consists of ten songs (or ‘commandments’, as they were called in the run-up to this album), each exploring a basic principle of life. Subsequently, the fact that the topics are very diverse also means that Space seems to have something for everyone musically.
