Info for Mouth Games
Danish harmonica virtuoso Mathias Heise presents his highly anticipated album, 'Mouth Games on Storyville Records. The project, described by Heise as his 'first acoustic jazz album', is a result of years of meticulous groundwork. 'Mouth Games' features a captivating interplay between Heise and a carefully selected group of highly talented musicians, including accomplished pianist Jacob Christoffersen, master guitarist Pelle von Bulow, acclaimed bassist Thomas Fonnesbaek and versatile drummer Jeppe Gram.
With nine carefully chosen tracks, including seven original compositions and two standards, 'Mouth Games' presents a captivating narrative that explores classical structural conventions of jazz with flair, innovation, taste and virtuosity. Heise's masterful harmonica playing effortlessly intertwines with the highly accomplished rhythm section. Their telepathic interplay results in memorable performances filled with muscular mature solos, deeply rooted in the language of modern jazz traditions.
Mathias Heise is internationally renowned for his groundbreaking approach to jazz improvisation on the chromatic harmonica, having won the 2013 Chromatic Harmonica World Championship, received the Danish Crown Prince Couple's prestigious Stardust Award in 2016 and being awarded the Ben Webster Prize in 2017. Mathias Heise
is a virtuoso on his harmonica and an exceptional musical talent. He started playing the harmonica at the age of eight and became enthralled with the instrument, which has followed him through thick and thin ever since.
It is rare for a young Danish musician to be named world champion of his instrument, but at the mere age of 20, Mathias Heise was crowned world champion of the chromatic mouth harp in 2013.
In 2012, he formed Mathias Heise Quadrillion, who managed to create a different, unique, and very personal contemporary expression, combining the harmonies and improvisation of jazz with the hard-hitting rhythms of rock and funk music. He also played with the world-renowned composer and pianist Bent Fabricius-Bjerre at his last public concerts in 2018 and 2019. Mathias has released three albums of his own.
