Info for Le Masque de Fer
The man in the iron mask died in 1703 in the Bastille and was buried in an unknown place. From descriptions by his contemporaries, it is known that his numerous privileges included the possession of a lute and the most recent musical publications. His identity has remained a mystery to the present day ...
The young ensemble La Ninfae (whose members include Barbara Heindlmeier, recorder, and Marthe Perl, viola da gamba) has attempted to imagine itself in the situation – the isolation and the anguish, but also the joyful moments – of the famous prisoner. And thus, alongside the melancholy loneliness, the music also reflects the multifaceted spirit of that ostentatious epoch. Sometimes it also tells of that what found its way to his ears in the prison: church bells (cloches), human voices (les voix humaines), or the echo in the corridors.
Ensemble La Ninfea:
Barbara Heindlmeier, recorder
Christian Heim, recorder, Viola da Gamba
Marthe Perl, Viola da Gamba
Simon Linné, theorbo, Baroque Guitar
