Info for Piazzolla: Works for Harp & Piano

Astor Piazzolla is probably the best known composer of "Nuevo Tango" - that exciting combination of passion and melancholy, of Tango Argentino and classical music. Duo Praxedis also represents an "exciting combination" (quote "International Piano Magazine") with its equally rare and tonally highly exciting instrumentation of harp and piano. The masculine-muscular aura of the concert grand piano in constant interplay with the feminine-sensual sound of the harp seem to be made for this music - a hitherto unheard-of tango experience, which you will not want to miss once you have heard the unique sound of Duo Praxedis!

"Astor Piazzolla did not compose a single piece for harp, but quite a few harpists have transcribed his music. Duo Praxedis has filled two albums with such transcriptions for harp and piano. This was not an easy job, because Piazzolla’s music is not typical for the harp, the harmonic changes present the harpist with a lot of chromatic and rhythmic challenges. As Fernando Gonzalez writes in the booklet, the two musicians « challenged themselves as interpreters while distilling the music to its essentials. They whittled away lines; plain, forceful rhythms became implied, and once dense, aggressive, fugue-like passages appear here like translucent webs of sound. Accordingly, the well-known and lesser-known pieces played on both of the albums sound distinct and novel. Even those who know ‘their’ Piazzolla well will discover him anew with this recording."
