Info for Carrousel

El Comité, the group of virtuoso Cuban jazz soloists made up of Carlos Sarduy (trumpet), Irving Acao (tenor & soprano saxophone), Harold López-Nussa (piano, keyboards), Gastón Joya (double bass, electric bass), Yaroldy Abreu (percussion) and Rodney Barreto (drums), present their second album 'Carrousel'. Featuring Ibrahim Maalouf and Pedrito Martinez.

Recorded at Studio Ferber in Paris, 'Carrousel' was produced by Sébastien Vidal (Yuri Buenaventura, Christian Escoudé...), artistic director of the Duc des Lombards and various festivals. This is the second album from this festive, sometimes romantic collective, composed and performed by artists who have played with the crème de la crème of the international scene, from Ray Lema to David Murray and Esperanza Spalding, as well as being partners with the leading figures in Cuban music of the last twenty years: Irakere and Chucho Valdes, Omara Portuando, Los Van Van, Isaac Delgado, Buena Vista Social Club, and many others.

Carrousel' features eleven tracks, including nine original compositions and two covers (Wonderwall by Oasis and La Fama by Rosalia and The Weeknd).

Here are at least 7 good reasons to listen to El Comité: Harold Lopez-Nussa, Rolando Luna, Rodney Barreto, Yaroldy Abreu, Gaston Joya, Carlos Sarduy and Irving Acao!

Considered to be among the most brilliant and recognised Cuban musicians of their generation, this band of seven had the excellent idea of getting together on stage in Toulouse in October 2017!

From that first concert, it was clear to each of the musicians that the adventure couldn't stop there. So it was 9 months later (a good gestation period... according to some) that everyone got together again, going through the "Studio Elixir" box in Toulouse. 4 intense days to record the 9 tracks of this first album. All being formidable composers, arrangers and soloists, it was important for everyone to find their place quickly to achieve the balance and cohesion required to record in such a short space of time.

The 9 tracks that make up this album, entitled "Y que !? (So What) reflect the diversity of El Comité's influences and rhythms. The compositions are formidable, and the covers bear the El Comité stamp, always imbued with the fluidity and energy that characterise the group.

Afrobeat, funk, Latin jazz, ballads - a "Cuban groove siglo 21" for all ears. El Comité is first and foremost a continuation of the great history of Cuban music. Musical transmission between generations is still very important on the island. It's this solid foundation that has enabled the music to evolve over the decades without ever forgetting its roots. El Comité is both a warm tribute to past generations (Chucho Valdés, Emiliano Salvador, Gabriel Hernandez....) and to such greats as Miles Davis, but it is also a way for these young musicians to express themselves differently, outside their usual group, and to propose new sounds, arrangements and sonic ambiences.

Despite their young age, most of them have been on the international scene for 15 or 20 years, giving this album a real maturity.

The harmonies and structures of the themes are clear evidence of this throughout.

And last but not least, it's always a real pleasure to see El Comité on stage, where their boundless energy and musical generosity quickly become infectious!
