Info for Hommage
The Cracow Harp Quintet was founded in 2019; it consists of an unusual set of instruments: flute, harp, and a string trio. As the only such professional chamber ensemble in Poland, it promotes music that has been forgotten or has not been published yet. Thanks to the joint initiative, the members of the ensemble share many years of experience of concerts, festivals, and competitions in Poland and abroad. The album Hommage is a tribute to the output of the composers associated with the Quintette Instrumental de Paris - a formation whose 100th anniversary of the foundation falls this year. The album will feature compositions by artists who were closely related to the ensemble, such as Jean Absil, Jacques Pillois, Aleksan der Tansman, and Jean-Yves Daniel-Lesur. The repertoire is distinguished by it's diverse nature: French Impressionism, medieval monody motifs, fascination with the Far East culture as well as the 20th-century idiom of Polish music. The album will feature the world recording premiere of Jacques Pillois's suite 5 Haka and the Polish recording premiere of Sonatina da camera by Aleksander Tansman.
Cracow Harp Quintet
Cracow Harp Quintet
is a group of young graduates of the best European music academies - flutist Amelia Lewandowska-Wojtuch, harpist Adrian Nowak, violinist Maria Garstecka, violist Jan Czyżewski and cellist Paweł Czarakcziew. Thanks to a joint initiative, the quintet members share their passion by performing on stages in Poland and abroad, also achieving successes at international competitions (2nd prize at the 7th Iberian Contest of Chamber Music with Harp in Madrid in 2019).
The Cracow Harp Quintet, as the only one professional chamber ensemble in Poland with this unusual instrumental composition, promotes chamber music created for the legendary Quintette Instrumental de Paris. The formation is "characterized by the softness of the French interpretation" (quoted by Isabelle Perrin) and the "fullness and variety of sound equal to the symphony orchestra" (quoted by Margit Anna Suss).
The main part of the group's repertoire are pieces from the late nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century, in particular derived from French Impressionism. In addition to the compositions by, among others Roussel, Cras and Tournier, the program includes works by Polish composers such as Aleksander Tansman. The artists, not limited to performing impressionist music, constantly expand their repertoire with new items, creating original arrangements of chamber and orchestral works, and engaging in projects that go beyond the framework of broadly understood classical music. In the winter of 2019, the band's debut album "Świąteczne" was released, containing unusual arrangements of Christmas carols and pastorals.
