Info for Disease

Disease is a painstaking, riff-driven examination of the unshakeable throes of depression. While there are moments of positivity, this isn’t the sound of triumph. This is music about survival.

“The album is a whirlwind of emotion,” Shomo explains. “Crazy highs, crazy lows, and lots of intensity. This record isn’t about winning anything. It’s about trying to even begin to learn how to deal with things. It’s hard to process just how dark you can get, what you can really put yourself through with expectations. It’s like starting from the beginning all over again. At the end of the day, it is a very dark album.”

Even as Shomo and his bandmates played to sold-out crowds across Europe, the battle against mental illness and childhood issues returned, and the seed for Disease was planted. The title track was the first song written for it, setting the overall tone.

As always, Shomo recorded vocals, guitars, bass, and drums, and mixed the album himself with assistance from an engineer, now with executive producer (and Grammy winner) Nick Raskulinecz, who has worked with Foo Fighters and Rush.

To further enhance the emotional realism Beartooth champions, the third full-length album was tracked in a brand new environment, with an old-school urgency. After crafting the songs in his usual basement domain, Shomo made the trip from the familiar comfort of his equipment and isolation in Ohio to Blackbird in Nashville. The famous recording studio was the birthplace of pivotal work from a massive list of legends, tastemakers, and up-and-comers; like Alice In Chains, Taylor Swift, and Greta Van Fleet.

Beartooth
is an American hardcore band from Columbus, Ohio formed in 2012 by Caleb Shomo after he left another metalcore, Ohio band, Attack Attack! The band is currently signed to Red Bull Records and is managed by The Artery Foundation since 2013 along with Shomo's electronic act, CLASS. Shomo sung, produced, and played all instruments on their first release, recruiting the other members of the band later. The band's debut album Disgusting was released on June 10, 2014 and has been widely praised by its listeners.

Caleb Shomo began writing Beartooth songs while he was still in Attack Attack! as "a different musical outlet". Shomo has said the band originally "started as a joke band" with members of My TIckey Home, as a way to make fun, punk-rock, hardcore, wild music, play crazy shows and have a good time without pressure from anything. The band was originally called Noise, but was switched to Beartooth upon realization the name was already taken.

The band have been labeled as a modern hardcore punk band across both their albums (Sick EP & Disgusting) but have also been said to carry influences of nu metal and also metalcore, possibly derived from Shomo's previous band Attack Attack!, renown for their metalcore theme although Shomo decided to abandon the electronic elements. The band is also renown for their use of highly catchy chorus' and melodic verses, giving them high ratings to their music by critics. Caleb Shomo himself was named one of Altpress magazine's 15 best screamers in metalcore as of February 2014, of which he stated that the band's motive was "...to make fun, punk-rock, hardcore, wild music, play crazy shows and have a good time without any pressure from anything."

This album contains no booklet.
