Info for The Melancholy Season
Legendary keyboard player and founding member of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers BenmontTench will release his second solo album, The Melancholy Season, on March 7 via Dark Horse Records. Tench’s first solo effort in over a decade (following 2014’s You Should Be So Lucky), The Melancholy Season is produced by Jonathan Wilson (Father John Misty, Margo Price, Billy Strings) and includes performances by Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek), singer/songwriter Jenny O and Sebastian Steinberg (Fiona Apple, Iron and Wine, Soul Coughing).
With a career spanning five decades, Tench is celebrated as one of contemporary music’s finest keyboardists, renowned for his exceptional work on the organ and piano.
Tench has not only shaped the sound of the Heartbreakers but has also contributed to an impressive array of recordings with a diverse roster of artists, including Stevie Nicks, Willie Nelson, Alanis Morissette, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, the Chicks, the Replacements, John Prine, Waylon Jennings, John Fogerty, Elvis Costello, the Rolling Stones and Johnny Cash.
‘The Melancholy Season’ is his second solo album after four decades on keyboards with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. ‘The Melancholy Season’ is Tench's true debut as a singer-songwriter, without compromise or doubt. It was produced by Jonathan Wilson - an acclaimed singer-songwriter and touring guitarist for Roger Waters who has worked on career-defining albums for Dawes, Father John Misty and Margo Price. The album's core studio band included Dawes' Taylor Goldsmith on guitar, Soul Coughing's Sebastian Steinberg on bass and Wilson on drums, with contributions from Jenny O. and Sara Watkins. Tench ‘couldn't be happier’ to have found a home for The Melancholy Season at Dark Horse Records, saying it's ‘a label that touches me emotionally. And they have the music of George, Cat Stevens, Joe Strummer - these are writers. To be in that company is perfect.’
