Info for Downland

Claus Fischer is probably known to every musician in the German-speaking world and many beyond. Countless TV productions and collaborations with artists and bands such as Chaka Khan, FranckBand, Larry Carlton, Hanno Busch Trio, Lee Ritenour, Angelo Kelly, Ivan Lins, Don Grusin etc also made him known to the wider public. He has been heard and seen in the upper echelons of almost every genre for decades, shaping every concert and production with his casual, earthy yet energetic playing and incomparable sound. September 2022 will finally see the release of his first solo album "Downland" (Leopard Records), the first part of a trilogy.

"Earthy and grounded is his playing. A booster with bottoms-up/kick-ass guarantee. With this, he drives everything and proves to be the power that is otherwise quickly and sometimes hastily attributed solely to the drummer - namely, to be the actual motor. Claus is certainly such an engine on this album, but - as I said - not only as a bass player, but as a complete one-man rhythm section.

The versatile and stringy Fischer plays various guitars: the electric and acoustic variety, as well as slide guitar and the Dobro, a member of the family of resonance guitars with (in this case) metal bodies, instruments that have a regular place especially in blues, blue grass and country music. And these forms of expression mix with funk and fusion on Downland. Fischer's credo of only playing what he enjoys is consistently put into practice. You can hear that. And it is all the more fun to listen." (Karsten Mützelfeldt, Deutschlandfunk)

Claus Fischer
was born in Leverkusen in 1965, lives in his favourite city Cologne and started playing music at the age of 4.

A German bass legend. Claus Fischer's professional career began in the 1980s in the quintet of German jazz guitarist Norbert Scholly and in the fusion trio Fugu. In 1988 he joined the Franck Band with the members Hinrich Franck, Werner Neumann and Hardy Fischötter. His nationwide media breakthrough came in 2001 when Stefan Raab called him to TV-Total (PRO7) as Musical Director (MD), bassist and guitarist.

After about 650 TV-Total shows, he switched in 2004 to the LateNightShow of Anke Engelke (SAT1), to whom he was married for a long time, as musical director and bass player. This was followed by several years as a producer of various pop albums, e.g. with Phunkguerilla, Gregor Meyle and Angelo Kelly. At the same time, he played concerts and tours as a sideman or bandleader with Christopher Cross, Lee Ritenour and Renee Olstead, among others. Arnd Fuchs met the bass virtuoso during the gigantic hall tour production "25 Years Over the Hump" of the Kelly Family for an exciting conversation in the Hanns Martin Schleyer Hall in Stuttgart.

Claus Fischer is currently playing with 4-time Grammy winner Larry Carlton, American pop & jazz singer and world beatbox champion Butterscotch, Phunkguerilla, HannoBuschTrio, Peter Weniger's POD, Dennis Hormes, Heavytones, Angelo Kelly and the terrific band "Sommerplatte".
