Info for Chat Bizarre

MENGAMO celebrates the untamed: electronic soundscapes, progressive rock borrowings and energetic free fusion play testify to the broad sonic spectrum of Hammond organist Sebastian Scobel, drummer Thomas Sauerborn and Philipp Brämswig on guitar. With the same love for opulent sound as for catchy songs, the trio, founded in 2012 and formed not least through performances in the legendary Cologne underground club "Stecken", is captivating.

MENGAMO plays with the familiar, reminiscent of times when guitar solos never lasted less than five minutes and singer-songwriters shared the festival mike with free jazzers and funk greats. "The Mengamo Trio opens up new worlds of sound. I am fascinated by the musical power of this band, their compositions and their playing. Can't wait to hear them burning!" (Werner Neumann)

Mengamo Trio
The trio, founded in 2012 and formed not least through performances at the legendary Cologne "Stecken", captivates with the combination of the well-rehearsed rhythm section Sebastian Scobel (org) / Thomas Sauerborn (dr) and the rousing solo lines of the exceptional guitarist Philipp Brämswig.

On their debut CD "The One" (FLOAT Music), the trio combines their own titles with sophisticated arrangements of songs by the English singer-songwriter Nick Drake and US guitar legend Bill Frisell. Electronic soundscapes, progressive rock borrowings and energetic free fusion play testify to the broad sonic spectrum. And yet they are "only" three musicians "who play like one, but sound like a dark hundred." (Peter Mußler)

One might think of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, John Lord, Dr. Lonnie Smith or the Wayne Krantz Trio. One might remember times when guitar solos never lasted less than 5 minutes and singer/songwriters shared the festival mike with free jazzers and funk greats.
