Info for Dvorak Symphony No. 5, Op. 76 & Symphonic Poem, The Wild Dove, Op. 110
Marcus Bosch and the Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg continue their internationally acclaimed Dvořák series with two less-present works. The key F Major is not the only thing that the Fifth Symphony and Beethoven’s Pastorale have in common, but also their prevailing mood: Long stretches of dramatic contrasts remain in favor of representation of lyrical moods.
Stronger than in his earlier symphonies Dvořák brings out the specific Bohemian sound that gives the work, created in 1875, a completely unique character. Later Dvořák turned to the symphonic poem: 1896 he composed the music to four ballads of Czech poet Karel Jaromír Erben. The last ballad was The Wild Dove.
