Info for Universos

Yotam Silberstein Presents ‘Universos’, An Album That Sums Up His Various Musical Loves And Draws Its Richness And Colours From Many Traditions From Different Regions Of The Planet. Music influenced by folkloric music from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Israel, Venezuela, Spain and more.

Based In New York Since 2005, Yotam Silberstein Has Demonstrated How Deeply He Is Rooted In The Jazz Tradition By Playing With Many Masters Of This Music, From James Moody To Charles McPherson Via Roy Hargrove And Monty Alexander.

His Album ‘The Village’, Recorded With Aaron Goldberg, Reuben Rogers And Gregory Hutchinson, Brilliantly Illustrated His Attachment To Swing And His Mastery Of Modern Jazz. However, The Guitarist Has Always Had A Great Curiosity For Different Cultures And ‘Universos’ Is Proof Of This.

Recorded In The Continuity Of The Album ‘Future Memories’, Using The Trio He Formed With The Brazilian Pianist And Accordionist Vitor Gonçalves And The Israeli Drummer And Percussionist Daniel Dor, This New Album Presents A Wide Range Of Original Compositions, Based On Travel Experiences, Encounters, Collaborations And Memories. It Welcomes A Few Choice Guests Such As The Israeli Flautist Itai Kriss, The Argentinian Musician Carlos Aguirre (On Percussion) And Grégoire Maret On Harmonica.

Alternating Electric And Acoustic Guitar, Yotam Silberstein Develops Superb Melodies That Are Rich In His Familiarity With Different Forms Of Brazilian Music, From The Frevo Of Pernambuco To The Bossa Of Rio De Janeiro Via The Choro; They Also Owe To The Traditions Of Argentina, Uruguay, The Dominican Republic, Andalusia Or The Near East, But Also To Blues, Jazz And Rock.

‘Universos’ Thus Offers Itself As A Constellation Of Compositions That Illustrate The Great Talent Of Yotam Silberstein, Whose Guitar Is A Magnificent Passport To Explore And Bring To Our Ears A Great World Of Music.

“His tone dark and lush, his music struck through with passion and intimacy. Silberstein’s soulfulness is tempered by seriousness that gives his music tremendous weight, as his innate talent burns through every bar… A true polyglot with an adroit skill set, Silberstein is on a journey to watch.” (Ken Micallef in JazzTimes Magazine)
