Info for Red Nose Hymn

Røed Quartet is a modern jazz ensemble playing original tunes rooted in the golden era of the 1960s. Led by Norwegian saxophonist Aksel Røed the band features Swedish drummer Cornelia Nilsson (Aaron Parks), the lyrical Lyder Røed (FIEH, Slow is the New Fast) on trumpet and flugelhorn, and steadfast Ola Høyer (Cortex, Moon Relay) on the double bass. The group delivers energetic and deeply musical interplay. The band was originally put together due to a commissioned work for the Tedansfestival in 2024, and later recorded this album, their debut.

Aksel Øvreås Røed
is a Norwegian saxophonist and a key figure in the young jazz community in Bergen. In few years he's made his move out of the suburbs of Bergen to Europe's jazz scene and has toured extensively with bands such as Bernhoft and Spidergawd. Aksel has left his mark on twenty recordings, and in 2023 released two records with projects under his own name; Aksel Røed’s Other Aspects and Aksel Røed Trio. He studies at the Grieg Academy under the guidance of saxophonist Kjetil Møster, and draws inspiration from legends such as John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins. He is also a strong force behind the scenes, as concert organiser for improvisational music, passionately committed to strengthening Bergen’s music scene. Aksel is a co-producer of Bergen Improklubb, Tedans and Playdate, and board member of Nattjazz. Aksel received recognition for his multi-faceted work and commitment when he was awarded Vossajazzprisen in 2023.
