Info for Bird in Paradise
Their tenth studio album, Bird in Paradise, is due to be released on 7 March 2025 and includes the current dancefloor hit ‘La Gracia’. ‘When we set out to record the Bird in Paradise album, we wanted to make a musically richer album than before, putting the band front and centre instrumentally like never before.’ ‘Musically, Bird in Paradise is an Australian, flamenco, Afro-Cuban project. We've taken the themes of contemporary flamenco and Cuban music and combined them with the determination and grit of Australian rock history.’
On the new album, Felix Riebl comments “Musically speaking, Bird in Paradise is an Australian-Flamenco, Afro-Cuban project. We’ve drawn from the themes of contemporary flamenco and Cuban music, and combined it with the grit, and toughness of Aussie rock history. Add Ollie’s Jazz influence and you have a sound only The Cat Empire can create. These influences are shaped by undercurrents of urban and outback Australia, adding an undeniably Aussie edge to international sounds.”
Inspired by the vibrant energy of their European tour, their latest offering, ‘Blood on The Stage’ pulses with creeping percussion, a deep thumping beat, and electrifying horns. The new single captures the essence of their live show, transforming it into an irresistible anthem that’s guaranteed to ignite dancefloors.
Felix discusses the single, “The expression ‘Let’s leave some blood on the stage’ was a way to fire up before shows. It was a pact we made with each other – to give everything we had and then some each night, no matter the exhaustion, or whether it was a festival, a theatre or an intimate club. That deal (with the devil?) remains, it’s become a Cuban inspired banger that reminds us of it. The chorus hook has to be sung at the top of your voice (you have to mean it!), and has been shouted in on some fairly high spirited post show bus celebrations. Now it’s time the song actually hits the stage!”
The Cat Empire
The Cat Empire
Formed in Melbourne, Australia and adored the world over, The Cat Empire is a musical success story that continues to be written. Throughout their 20 year career, the band's stratospheric trajectory has continued unabated, becoming one of Australia's most successful musical exports, growing an army of ardent fans at home and abroad.
Since their teens, the six bound together by a love of music, and bolstered by the career-long guidance of Manager Correne Wilkie, have gone about the business of crafting infectious, genre-embracing anthems and releasing chart-topping, multi-platinum albums to take to the live stage. It was not unusual to find the band performing on main stage bills at iconic international festivals, selling out the world's most famous arenas, mobbed by supporters and media at airports in Spain, and appearing on top rating T.V. shows like Letterman and Leno.
In September 2021, The Cat Empire announced that after 20 years, the band's original line-up would play their final shows together, culminating in a massive show and virtual concert from their hometown of Melbourne in December.
The next chapter of The Cat Empire begins with founding members Felix Riebl and Ollie McGill stepping forward with "a re-imagined, vibrant, cross-cultural, and joyful collective of musicians and artists", with new music planned for 2022.
