Info for Wieniawski, Bruckner: String Quartets
The album contains two extremely interesting, rarely performed string quartets. The work of the author of the first one, Józef Wieniawski, has only been gaining popularity in recent years, coming out of the shadow of the achievements of the composer's older brother, Henryk. The song has a romantic character, full of contrasts, it seduces with a multitude of lyrical and bold motifs with a barely perceptible but present Polish melody. Bruckner's composition is a youthful work typical of late Austrian-German romanticism, which foreshadows the personal style of the later great symphonist, manifested, among others, by in a rich rhythmic and melodic texture and dense polyphonies. The sound of the international Viennese ensemble is noteworthy, referring to the legacy of the golden era of string quartets from the last quarter of the 20th century. A noble tone, romantic phrasing and technical virtuosity are the hallmarks of these imaginative interpretations. The recording will charm every connoisseur of chamber repertoire.
"This atmospheric music is rendered intensely and also carefully by the Glière String Quartet. At the same time, the ensemble allows itself to be carried away by a somewhat casually brusque phrasing of individual chords, just as it could occasionally coordinate itself more carefully in intonation and the shaping of the musical events. On the whole, however, it offers interpretations of these two quartets that are joyful to play and tastefully elevate the moods. In doing so, they offer exciting views of these two works, making it clear why they chose Glière as the namesake of their quartet." (pizzicato.lu)
