Info for Beauty In Broken
Comeback after 27 years: At the end of the eighties, The Jeremy Days were one of the few bands from Germany that made it onto MTV at a time when that was still reserved for the really big acts. With "Brand New Toy" they had landed a kind of evergreen that is still played on the radio today. In ten years and five albums, their mixture of British pop and American art rock brought them together with legendary producers like Clive Langer, Alan Winstanley (for Madness, Elvis Costello and others) and Fred Maher (for Lou Reed, Lloyd Cole and others) and through the big clubs of the republic, including a UK tour. In the end, they had sold over half a million records in 1995.
No one dared to believe in a reunion when, after 24 years of radio silence, The Jeremy Days suddenly appeared on stage at the sold-out Hamburg Docks in 2019 and played their way through an exhilarating concert evening "for the history books of pop music", as NDR television commented. The band around singer Dirk Darmstaedter was back. Would they stay? After a subsequent successful tour through Germany, the energetic album "Beauty in Broken" was indeed released. It is the first new release of the group since 1995, released on the band's own label Circushead Records.
When nobody really expected it, The Jeremy Days suddenly appeared on stage at the Hamburg Dock in early 2018 after 24 years of radio silence and played their way through an exhilarating concert evening as if they had just gone for a walk around the block in the meantime. Besides the musical sensation, it was also a highly emotional event for the band. After all, in 1996, when the band ended, the boys had virtually broken off contact with each other. After almost ten years, during which they had several hits and even a kind of evergreen with "Brand New Toy", and five albums on which they had worked with legendary producers such as Clive Langer, Alan Winstanley (for Madness, Elvis Costello and others) and Fred Maher (for Lou Reed, Lloyd Cole and others), the air was out. They had managed to appear as posters in Pop-Rocky as well as in the feuilleton of the FAZ, but at some point the male flatmates they were could no longer see each other, smell each other, be around each other all the time. That they would compose and record an album together again in 2021 would have seemed illusionary three years earlier.
"So "Beauty Is Broken" is definitely recommended to fans of the first hour, who will find a good piece of 'their old' JEREMY DAYS here again. But also pop lovers who have not yet come into contact with the guys from the Waterkant will enjoy the catchy and radio-ready songs. Recommended tracks: the opening title track "Beauty Is Broken", the soulful piano number "For The Lovers", the guitar-driven "Breathe", the pumping "The Deep Dark Night" and the pensive closer "Lights Out"."
