Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Having initially made a name for herself performing as the lead singer for indie rock band Theaudience, Sophie’s career in the music industry soon soared to new heights following her incredible success as a solo performer. Sophie’s wonderful debut album, Read My Lips, was quick to establish her as a relevant act on the international stages. As such, Read My Lips, saw Sophie achieve considerable international success from the get-go, selling over 2 million copies in total. Three of the album’s four singles also became top three hits within the UK.
Following the album’s success, Sophie was soon awarded the Edison Award in the category of Best Dance Album. Providing a worthy follow-up to her first album, Sophie soon treated her audiences to the release of her second studio album, Shoot from the Hip, producing two top ten singles in the process. Sophie’s third studio album, 2007’s Trip the Light Fantastic, also achieved commercial success. The same year saw Sophie tour with a number of other well-known acts, including George Michael and Take That. Sophie’s impressive catalogue of releases was soon added to in the form of her first live release, Sophie Ellis-Bextor: iTunes Live in London.
This release provided fans of the English singer-songwriter with a much-anticipated recording of Sophie’s impressive live performances. In the years following this release, Sophie continued to be musically productive. As a result, the following years saw the release of Sophie’s fourth and fifth studio albums, Make a Scene and Wanderlust. This was followed by the release of her sixth album Familia, an album which was heavily inspired by Sophie’s experiences in North America and Mexico. Always working to perfect her musical craft, Sophie is currently working on the release of The Song Diaries, an album that will feature many of her greatest hits reworked into an orchestra setting.
Aside from Sophie’s success in the world of music, she has also made numerous appearances for television. Having appeared on the eleventh season of Strictly Come Dancing, Sophie’s unquestionable knack for performance saw her become a finalist on the show. In addition, she has also made a number of other television appearances, including a cameo appearance for Ricky Gervais’ and Stephen Merchant’s Life’s Too Short.
In 2023, Sophie's song "Murder on the Dancefloor" was featured on the soundtrack of "Saltburn", re-entering the UK Singles Chart at No.2. In 2024, Sophie enjoyed a successful year performing over 100 gigs, before topping off the year and seeing in 2025 performing in "Sophie Ellis Bextor's New Year's Eve Disco" on BBC One.
As a multi-talented performer, Sophie Ellis-Bextor is set to continue an already successful career in entertainment. As such, she continues to build upon her reputation as one of the most exciting British performers ever to come out of the country.
