Info for DJUPNA
Bodil Rørtveit's voice has been described as a symbol of primal power and presence. Now the vocal artist releases her first solo album. On the genre-crossing DJUPNA, she creates atmospheric landscapes that spread out - vulnerable, naked, unfiltered - and without words.
DJUPNA is a quest for inner peace and contact with one's innermost, most authentic being - a contemplative, quiet and expressive album. With multiple layers of voices, Bodil builds harmonious structures with growling drones, open sounds, lingering melodies and minimalist musical mantras. She evokes the sounds of birds and whales, drawing listeners into an immersive experience.
“I am often deeply worried and discouraged about the future of the planet and humanity. With DJUPNA I wanted to create a counterbalance to this feeling. With this album I wanted to create a cocoon - a vocal oasis that can envelop the listener and give new strength. And that one can hopefully manage to gather oneself for constructive, positive action when one goes out into the world again,” says Bodil.
Inspired by the forces of nature: She has drawn inspiration from the sea, in the forest and on the mountain at the far end of the ocean at Sotra outside Bergen. She has received some wondering looks as she has walked around and let her voice imitate the waves and bird sounds in nature with her mobile phone on recording. Back in the cabin, this inspiration has become layer upon layer of vocals that reflect moods from nature.
With the voice as the only instrument: “I like to go deep into what interests me, and polyphonic vocals are one of the things that fascinates me the most here in the world,” continues Bodil. “When I discovered loop machines and realized that I could create an entire vocal orchestra with my own voice, I had finally found my compositional tool. I discovered that I wasn’t so interested in lyrics - that I wanted to create wordless stories where it was the sound and character of the voices and sounds themselves that carried the music. This also gives the listener more room to create their own interpretations.”
Entrepreneurial trainer Torill Bye Wilhelmsen, is one of those who has been given a preview of the album. “Bodil’s music resonates deeply with me. As an opposite of computer-generated pling-plong, this album came as a collection of exclusive and original musical deep dives,” she says. “This is music that gives you something new to discover with every listen, and I already recommend it to everyone I know — and especially to those who are looking for music that has something to give them, while also calming their nervous system.”

Bodil Rørtveit
Vocal artist and composer Bodil Rørtveit he knows for sin uttrykksfulle, sjangerutfordrende stemme and innovative musical concepts. Fra fengslende soloopptredener til konserter med store symfoniorkestre, har hun i sin musikalske career utforsket forholdet mellom menneske og natur og skapt en rekke gripende opplevelser for audience. Blant Rørtveits tidligere sales the concert forestillingen Sustain, the all instruments var layet av plastavfall - urfremført på Festspillene in Bergen and senere tilpasset for Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester og Stavanger Symfoniorkester. Under pandemics, the critics were invited to Hengekøyekonsert-konseptet, who invited the innovative folk musicians Benedicte Maurseth and Berit Opheim, and the audience opplevde musikk og fuglesang fra Hengekøyer in skogen. I debuted in 2021 with the sitt solo show RØYST ved the Vestnorske Theater, and hennes siste soloturné, vocalise for the blue planet, combined surround and live electronics in hyllest til planeten vår.
Rørtveits vocal work has a bright rust for sin intensity, emotional spennvidde and instrumentale kvalitet. The audience can work in a way that is “hypnotizing”, “dyptic moving” and “spa-active”. With swimming pool and power inviter Rørtveits lydlandskaper lytterne inn i en tilstand av contemplasjon og samhørighet. Henne's upcoming solo album, DJUPNA (April 4th), continues to travel with her music as a foreigner and friend.
