Info for Reminiscence - Works for Violin and Piano

In their debut album, Jaleh Perego and Sara Pavlovic present Brahms' Violin Sonata in G major and Schubert's Fantasy in C major – two masterpieces of Romantic chamber music.

Both works unfold their special expressive power through musical reminiscences and self-quotations that open up hidden spaces of meaning and hint at semantic references without directly stating them.

"A sonata and a fantasy for violin and piano, based on the songs of their respective composers, reveal the romantic context in which they were created. Brahms's first sonata and Schubert's standalone fantasy for violin and piano.

Brahms composed this violin sonata with the most beautiful intimacy. It creates a uniquely haunting atmosphere. It brings the past to life with the present, reminding us of the transience of time, which, suspended between major and minor, reveals a peculiar magic.

The two artists, Jaleh Johanna Perego, born in France and also of Italian roots, and the Serbian pianist Sara Pavlović, convey a good impression of these musical ideas and compositions with their airy yet concentrated playing. This offers a well-told story without any major surprises, but a charming performance.

Three aspects of Schubert's fantasy interpenetrate The concept of fantasy, the strict form, the free diction, and the brilliance are quite wonderful. The strict structure of the first movement, the dogged dance rhythm of the Allegretto in sharp, almost ironic contrast, as well as the three virtuoso variations in the final movement demonstrate these three aspects.

The performers allow themselves to develop and emphasize these aspects in their playing. In doing so, they achieve a transparent interpretation that enhances the free character of the work and makes it vividly audible. In this way, they achieve a certain degree of elegance and delicacy, but also strict passages. The overall picture of the fantasy is captured sensitively." (Uwe Krusch, pizzicato.lu)
