Info for Happy Deluxe
The music of Quadro Nuevo radiates the joy of an adventurous life. Every melody tells of it. Every note conveys the deep love for the instrument. Every journey characterises the extravagant musical art of the ensemble. In Buenos Aires, tango nights were spent dancing the night away. On the Greek islands, the virtuosos discovered the magnetic song Erotiko. Then they sailed through the Aeolian Islands on the trail of ancient myths, climbed lava-spewing volcanoes in Iceland and finally became infected with bossa, samba and chorinho in Brazil. Music that makes you happy! The interpretations are a universal expression of a passion for world-embracing sound poetry. This guarantees great joy of playing and the audience is happy deluxe!
Quadro Nuevo explains this sonic homage to moments of happiness:
"Our music has always been born from experiences and encounters. We were fascinated by the cheerfulness and friendliness of many people in Brazil. It coloured our songs.
That's how the title of the album came about. We are well aware that the everyday lives of many people are anything but carefree. Nevertheless - or precisely because of this - music can offer a positive alternative world, even in times of crisis and war."
Quadro Nuevo:
Mulo Francel, saxophone, clarinet, mandolin
Andreas Hinterseher, accordion, vibrandoneon, trumpet
D.D. Lowka, bass, percussion
Chris Gall, piano
Quadro Nuevo
The group Quadro Nuevo was born on a grey January day in 1996 when four young musicians met for the first time on a parking lot near Salzburg.
The four, who had only vaguely heard of each other before then, had been commissioned to produce a movie score for the Austrian TV station ORF. The fee for the recording was subsequently blown in the local Casino and the film was never broadcast.
But on that day, one thing was clear: a new quartet with an unmistakable sound had been born. From now on, there would only be Quadro Nuevo, the love of nostalgic acoustic music, traveling together evening after evening, from stage to stage. A dream became reality, the joyous exuberance audible in every note.
The quartet has now performed at many renowned festivals such as the Montreal Jazz Festival, the International Burghausen Jazz Weeks, the Rheingau Music Festival, Merano Music Weeks, Saalfelden Jazz Days, the Ollinkan Festival in Mexico City and the Quebec Festival. Aside from their numerous CDs, the group has published the 224-page autobiographical road book Grand Voyage and audiobooks with Ulrich Tukur, Ulrike Kriener, Udo Wachtveitl and Michael Fitz.
