Info for Flutter
Flutter is a suite of 8 piano works by UK pianist Barry Hudson-Taylor that inhabit the quiet spaces between joy and sorrow. Each piece draws inspiration from personal moments over the past few years - the weight of loss and grief, the slow shift toward healing, and the brief moments of light that surface along the way. Woven through these reflections are passages of calm and restraint, where elements of stillness and peace take centre stage.
True to its name, ‘Flutter’ moves with a gentle sense of motion, shaped by delicate contrast and change rather than fixed emotional states. The pieces ebb and flow, allowing subtle moments of tension and release to unfold across the record. Rather than settling into either sadness or joy, the music takes shape within the fragile, in-between spaces where feelings rise, fall, and ultimately transform.
The sonic realm of the album is intentionally sparse and contemplative. The backdrop is centred around piano layers and gentle ambient textures, giving the music a real sense of openness and breath. What emerges within is a space that feels intimate, patient and quietly expressive. Alongside the writing itself, equal care and attention went into the sonic characteristics of the recordings. Each performance was treated as its own small environment, with a focus on a clear, warm, and full-bodied piano sound. The result is a collection that is as much about tone and atmosphere as it is about melody and structure.

Hailing from a small hamlet about 40 minutes north of Manchester, music has been a constant thread in my life. From an early age, it wasn’t just something I listened to - it became a way of making sense of the world around me.
What began as a lighthearted audition - singing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” for a spot at the Blackburn Cathedral Music School in the early 2000s - ended up setting me on a path I’ve been following ever since.
12 years later, in 2012, I left for a new challenge - to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree in Music Production from Leeds Conservatoire. I was lucky enough to work under the tutelage of some of the industry’s most respected professionals, from engineers straight out of Abbey Road, to friends and colleagues who taught me the fundamental values of navigating through these somewhat turbulent waters of the music industry.
Over the years, I’ve explored, studied, performed, and produced music across a wide range of genres. Yet, no matter how far I wandered, I always seemed to return to my creative home at the piano.
While I’ve always strived for perfection within my recordings, it's in the imperfections that I capture that I've now come to embrace. The subtle sound of hammers hitting the strings or the piano keys clinking against one another in the quieter sections of a piece. It is within these humanistic blemishes in my music that I now find comfort.
