Info for The Bruckner Symphonies, Vol. 10 - Organ Transcriptions

This 2024 series marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of Anton Bruckner is dedicated to his symphonic works. Hansjorg Albrecht performs all of Bruckner’s symphonies in numerous new transcriptions for organ at important locations including Zurich, Leipzig, Linz, Vienna and London. Bruckner’s works are framed by contemporary compositions reflecting Bruckner’s output in the “Bruckner Windows”.

Hansjorg Albrecht concludes this extensive Bruckner commemoration project with the final recording, that of the Study Symphony.

Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) stands like a cliff in the waves with his symphonic works. His late Romantic symphonies point far into the future as great monoliths, and his deep faith and music dedicated to God connects him with Johann Sebastian Bach in the 18th century as well as with Olivier Messiaen in the 20th century.

While Bruckner had to struggle throughout his life for respect and public recognition as a composer, he achieved international fame early on thanks to his outstanding abilities as an organist. He was known throughout Europe for his virtuoso playing and received invitations to concert tours to France, England and Switzerland, among other places. In London he played to more than 70,000 people and at his concert in Notre Dame de Paris fellow composers such as Camille Saint-Saens, César Franck, Ambroise Thomas, Daniel Auber and Charles Gounod cheered Bruckner's symphonic organ improvisations. He celebrated triumphs and recognition with, among other things, great fantasies on his own themes as well as motifs from Richard Wagner's operas.
