Thomas Gaucher
Originally from Nouvelle Aquitaine, Thomas Gaucher is a guitarist and composer based in Paris since 2019. After studying at the CRR in Bordeaux, he moved to Paris to study at the CNSMDP, where he will graduate in 2021. He is an improvising musician and sideman in demand in a wide range of formations, with no stylistic boundaries. La Lanterne, his first album recorded for the INITIALE label, will be released in 2023. The many instrumental formations, ranging from trio to tentet, show both Thomas's qualities as a composer and the flexibility of his playing. Sometimes explosive, sometimes poetic, his improvisations, with their strong compositional logic, are always tinged with the blues.
He is currently developing the music of his trio with Blaise Chevalier and Loup Godfroy, a group that sheds new light on a popular instrumental formation. The repertoire includes a generous helping of Thomas's own compositions, as well as treasures from early 20th-century American music. At the same time, he has been working with groups such as Tuca, MindWatcher and Holocène. His studies at the CNSMDP brought him into contact with many musicians, leading him to co-found the groups Drapagoa and Lavender Walk.
