Info for UON
UON is the sophomore full length by prolific German composer and producer Linus Alberg. Three years in the making, this is a collection of ten of his favourite recordings from an incredibly productive and creative period (with over 100 takes to choose from). “These pieces were all recorded and produced under changing circumstances, with different setups, spaces and life situations. For me, each one has become a kind of door or time capsule that takes me back to the time, place or moment when it was created. Even though they were produced independently of each other, I like that together they form a new shared story with their own connections.”
Though Alberg is still in his 20s, from the first notes of the album opener ‘Everybody Needs a Friend’ we feel immersed in the world of an old soul. The melodies on his upright piano are at once sweet and provocative, the playing hushed and unhurried, yet gradually unfolding to reveal a depth of reflection. His sonic palette begins to open in the 3rd track ‘Himmelgelb’ as a gorgeously haunting harmonium joins the fold, only to reveal the full breadth of his production ability with ‘When Things Collide’. Here the piano and harmonium are immersed in layers of sumptuous analogue synths - some slowly pulsing, others soaring high above - which transport us into a rich cinematic universe. The album continues with oscillations between intimate, reflective numbers centred around the upright piano (Eis / Stehaufmaenecken) and lushly arranged rhythmic explorations (Wandering / Nebelblau).
