Info for Longer shadows, softer stones
Acclaimed Icelandic composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Snorri Hallgrímsson releases his DG debut Longer shadows, softer stones. After several collaborations in recent years, Hallgrímsson has now produced six thought-provoking original works that aim to free his listeners from their disillusionment with the uncertainty of our world and instead encourage them to face it with hope.
‘The older I get and the more I learn, the more I realise this strong sense of disillusionment that I've always felt,’ says Hallgrímsson. ‘We often associate melancholic music with depression, but for me depression is something that happens when we spiral into escapism in order to block out our discomfort. I am happiest when I endure, live and breathe disillusionment so that I can use it as a motor for my creativity.’
Halgrímsson grew up in a musical family, was trained as a classical guitarist and studied composition at the Iceland Academy of Arts and Berklee College of Music. He began writing his own works at an early age, creating soundscapes of subtle beauty and hopefulness, often characterised by an atmospheric mood.
