Info for You Belong
Danish quintet David Miilmann Group return with You Belong, their third album and a vibrant, uplifting statement built around guitarist David Miilmann's distinctive slide guitar voice. Rooted in soul and blues but shaped within a genre-defying jazz context, the band brings a life-affirming energy to music that moves between groove, melody, and open improvisation with ease. You Belong centres on Miilmann's approach to the guitar, drawing on the phrasing of singers like Curtis Mayfield, Freddie King and Aretha Franklin. His slide playing - developed as a way of emulating the human voice - sits at the core of the group's sound, cutting through a warm, rhythmically grounded backdrop that blends jazz, rock, and Brazilian influences. At its core, the album captures a working band in motion. The five musicians move fluidly between composed material and looser, more exploratory sections, guided by close listening and a shared sense of direction. The album's title, You Belong, points to the group's broader outlook: an inclusive, community-driven approach to making music. That idea runs through both the compositions and the band's dynamic - less about spotlighting individuals, more about building a collective sound.

Primal forces are at work when the David Miilmann Group (DMG) takes the stage, unleashing their genre-defying universe.
The five musicians use their instruments as their voice. Their performances are emotional, intense, and life-affirming as they navigate between composed pieces and improvisation, creating a unique experience shared with the audience.
With guitarist David Miilmann as the driving force and a shared passion for music, DMG invites listeners into a vibrant and uplifting community that also embraces shades of melancholy and introspection.
DMG released their debut album, 'Waiting for Myself,' in late summer 2021 and have followed up with their second album, 'What’s Left.' The band has achieved notable success with two DMA Blues nominations, being finalists in the Jazz Competition, and regular airplay on P8 Jazz.
“David Miilmann is an eminent slide guitarist, and he shares Derek Trucks' genre-defying playing style and tonal language. But you also hear echoes of Carlos Santana and Jeff Beck. David Miilmann Group puts musical elements together in their own way. You sense an artistic identity – and it also sounds really good!” - Jakob Wandam.
"So old-fashioned and exquisitely beautiful that the music is actually modern... Admittedly, it is quite overwhelming in an electronic, digital age to step into a universe with such well-played, tasteful music, delivered by genuine musicians in beautiful harmony... Without any misunderstanding, because the music is also captivating and challenging, it is simply delightful to listen to the second album from the David Miilmann Group. It is accessible in a positive sense and never closes in on itself...
Precisely for this reason, 'What’s Left' is such an astonishing album. It ends up appearing extremely modern by daring to stand firm on its own qualities. This is only possible when those qualities are as high as they are here." - Erik Jensen.
